Schools across the city were caught in the powerful assault of Hurricane Sandy. These images of relief efforts, shelter activities and voting that took place despite the damage to buildings capture some of the scenes that played out inside schools as communities worked to recover from the storm. Some of these images were taken by journalists for Schoolbook but others were posted to social media sites such as Facebook and Flickr by people working in the schools this past week.

Please send us photos of post-Sandy scenes that are happening at your schools. We’ll post them so they can be shared by all of Schoolbook’s readers. Send your photos to @SchoolBook on Twitter or by email to schoolbook@wnyc.org.

It is surprising that you are able to post photos of activities and residents inside the official Hurricane Evacuation Shelters. The general policy of OEM, manager of the shelters, is that no press is allowed to take photos inside. There are violation of privacy concerns. I did see a few residents in the photos posted.
