Renee Schoenfeld, the college adviser at Abraham Lincoln High School in Coney Island, is part wagon train driver, part Bobby Knight, part therapist, and all Jewish mother. She harasses, supports, nudges and guides the juniors and seniors at the 2,600-student school through the process of picking a college, writing essays, getting the applications in on time, pursuing financial aid and, over all, moving them on to the next step after high school.
