DOE Seeks to Phase Out 17 Schools in First Wave of Proposed Closures
The first list is out for this year's proposed school closings. It includes six schools in Brooklyn, five in the Bronx, four in Manhattan and two in Queens. State Tests Begin Tuesday, but Some Students Will Sit Them Out
Public school students throughout the city will be sitting down on Tuesday for a series of federally mandated tests that will be influential in everything from students' promotions to teachers' tenure. Students Pay Calls to Education Panel Members, but No One Answers
Students who are against school closings or turnarounds tried to see various members of the Panel for Educational Policy, but they were not available. The students say the panel members "rubber stamp'' the recommendations of the city's Department of Education and the mayor on which schools to close. Read More »
