At another school, it might have been a football rally. At Bronx Prep Charter School on Friday, it only looked like one. Seniors, many of them wearing college sweatshirts, marched out of the school one-by-one to cheers, high-fives and handshakes as they headed to the post office to send off their college applications. The school is in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city, but every one of the school's 56 graduating seniors are applying to college, school officials said, including to institutions like Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, Amherst College, Northeastern University and Tufts University. The school calls this tradition "mail-out day."
