Church Groups Push Albany to Allow Them Back Into School Buildings
Church groups and some lawmakers are putting pressure on Albany to pass legislation that would allow them to continue to worship in public schools, an end run around a court-upheld Department of Education policy barring the groups. And in other news, Mayor Michael R. The city's Department of Education has set hearing dates for the 25 schools that officials have recommended for closing or for the removal of middle school grades. The Panel for Educational Policy will vote on the recommendations on Feb. 9. Read More »
City Says Few Jane Addams Seniors Lack Credits
After a week of reviewing students' records at a troubled South Bronx high school, Department of Education officials said that most of the school's 200 seniors were on track to graduate in June.
