That Batboy Job With the Yankees? It's a Bronx School Perk
It used to be -- for the most part, anyway -- that batboy aspirants or their parents knew somebody with an insider connection to the Yankee organization. Or they knew somebody who knew somebody. But once the Yankees announced their new stadium plans, in 2005, they also began reaching out to schools in the surrounding Bronx community to fill a number of their batboy slots. And this year, Edwin Tavarez, who just graduated from the Urban Assembly School for Careers in Sports, and Bryan Jimenez, a new graduate of the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice, can be found wearing pinstripes and catching fly balls on the Yankee Stadium field.
